Empty Bowls, Take 2

We were blessed to hear from Dean of Students, Corey Farris, and his work with Empty Bowls Monongalia part of a larger Empty Bowls Movement.  You can read more about the history of the Empty Bowls Luncheon in Morgantown at their website. Note:  Presbyterians were integral in starting this program in Morgantown; and the PSF has contributed around 100 bowls to this project over the years.

Corey shared about growing up in an Episcopal Church in Charleston, WV that opened its doors to serve the community.  He shared that during the week Sunday School rooms were converted into free offices for local non profits, and that the church started a 7-day/week feeding program for the community.  These experiences were formative in his own call to help end hunger and food insecurity in Morgantown by serving on the Empty Bowls Mon board.   We learned that it would take 5 million dollars to end hunger and food insecurity in Morgantown each year.  In addition,we learned that local Backpack for Kids programs need close to 1,000 back packs each week to deal with the food insecurity of school age children in our county.  The Empty Bowls revenues support the back pack programs, the 14 food pantries, and other feeding programs in the greater Morgantown area.

There is still a chance to volunteer for Empty Bowls on February 23.  The PSF is glad to help students attend the lunch by helping cover the cost of the tickets.  Contact the PSF to get connected with volunteer coordinators or for help ordering tickets.

The Mon Empty Bowls website has a plethora of information about hunger in Morgantown and feeding programs.  Click Here to go to that site.  Corey also mentioned Feeding America. Click here to learn more about them!

What will you make of 2013/See you January 16, 7 pm!

What did you resolve to do in 2013?
What if these two rose to the top?
How would the others fall into place, fall away, or be resolved?

Join the PSF at WVU this spring semester as we aim to address these and other 'resolutions' in God's name.  We are a place where you can grow closer to God and meet others who are also trying to figure out where God is at work in their lives.

We meet on Wednesdays at 7 pm--feel free to come anytime after 6 pm.  We are usually back in the kitchen hanging out and cooking dinner or out front playing games or watching the latest you tube video.  Dinner begins around 7 -- it is FREE, mostly home made, and often good for you, i.e. healthy -- sometimes even fresh from our garden out back.

Around 7:30 pm -- we start with our program.  There is always prayer/worship--from there the program varies from discussions, speakers, Bible studies, etc.

We wrap up around 9 -- with dessert!

We meet at the Campus Ministry Center -- a green/cream HOUSE on the corner of Price/Willey, downtown near the VFW (map in side bar).

Hope to see you there -- January 16, 2013, 7 pm -- worship, fellowship, and communion on tap for the first week!
