Lent

Ash Wednesday is February 13.  This marks the beginning of the season of Lent.  Lent is forty days (minus Sundays) that begins with Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Eve (Saturday before Easter).  Lent is a time of reflection, repentance (turning back to God), and preparation for the celebration of the resurrection on Easter morning.  In some traditions, Hallelujah is not used in worship during Lent and returns with joyful acclimation on Easter morning to mark the resurrection of Christ.  It has become common practice for people 'give up' something for Lent.  While this is definitely a choice as a way to help focus yourself on God, there are other options that also can help to center a person during Lent -- prayer, fasting, study of scripture, attending to friendships, etc.

Many folks have questions about Lent.  We will spend the first two weeks of Lent (Feb. 20 and 27) learning about the meaning of Lent and participating in spiritual practices often recommended in Lent.  Plans are still being formed for Ash Wednesday.   There will be worship options coming soon!
